Security agencies investigating the recent terror incident in Pahalgam have reportedly uncovered fresh cross-border financial and communication links after recovering a mobile phone allegedly connected to a Karachi-based banking network previously flagged in terror-related investigations.
According to sources familiar with the probe, forensic analysis of the recovered device revealed contacts, transaction trails, and encrypted communication patterns pointing towards entities operating out of Karachi, Pakistan.
Investigators are now examining whether the financial channel was used for logistical support, movement coordination, or funding linked to militant operations in Jammu and Kashmir.
Karachi Bank Under Scanner Again
Officials said one of the banking entities whose details surfaced during the investigation had previously appeared in intelligence assessments connected to suspicious cross-border transactions and alleged terror financing routes.
While authorities have not publicly disclosed the exact institution involved, agencies are reportedly coordinating with central intelligence and financial monitoring units to trace the transaction history and digital footprints associated with the recovered phone.
Security officials believe the findings could strengthen claims regarding external support networks operating behind militant activities in the Valley.
Digital Evidence Becomes Key
The mobile phone recovered during the anti-terror operation is said to contain crucial digital evidence, including messaging app data, deleted files, contact histories, and possible location records.
Cyber forensic teams are currently attempting to reconstruct communication chains and identify handlers or facilitators who may have assisted the terrorists before the attack.
Officials say encrypted communication platforms and proxy internet channels continue to remain a major challenge for investigators tracking cross-border terror networks.
Pahalgam Attack Intensifies Security Concerns
The Pahalgam terror incident has once again raised concerns over infiltration routes, sleeper support systems, and terror financing mechanisms operating in sensitive regions of Jammu and Kashmir.
Following the attack, security forces intensified search operations across multiple districts, while intelligence agencies expanded surveillance over suspected overground worker networks and digital communication channels.
The case has also renewed focus on how terror outfits increasingly rely on technology, online transactions, and decentralised communication methods to avoid detection.
India’s Stand On Cross-Border Terror
India has repeatedly accused Pakistan-based terror groups and facilitators of supporting militancy in Jammu and Kashmir. Islamabad, however, has consistently denied involvement in such activities.
The latest findings from the Pahalgam probe are likely to further sharpen diplomatic and security tensions between the two countries, especially if investigators establish direct operational or financial links to handlers based across the border.
Officials have indicated that more disclosures may follow as forensic and intelligence analysis progresses.
The investigation remains ongoing.
