The United Democratic Front has welcomed the latest exit poll projections for the Kerala Assembly elections, expressing confidence that the alliance is poised for a strong performance, while the ruling Left Democratic Front and the BJP questioned the accuracy of the predictions.
Soon after several exit polls suggested gains for the UDF in the closely watched electoral contest, senior Congress-led alliance leaders claimed the public mood reflected growing dissatisfaction with the incumbent government and a desire for political change in the state.
UDF leaders said the exit poll trends validated their campaign focused on unemployment, economic concerns, governance issues, and alleged anti-incumbency sentiments against the ruling LDF government.
“We are confident the people of Kerala have voted for change. The exit polls reflect the public mood we witnessed during campaigning,” senior UDF leaders reportedly said after the projections were released.
However, leaders of the LDF strongly disagreed with the poll predictions, asserting that the alliance remained confident of retaining power under Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
LDF representatives argued that welfare measures, infrastructure development, and administrative performance would ultimately ensure voter support once the official counting takes place. Several Left leaders also cautioned against relying too heavily on exit polls, pointing to past instances where survey projections failed to match actual election outcomes.
The BJP also dismissed the predictions and maintained that the party had improved its organizational strength and voter outreach across Kerala. Party leaders claimed the BJP’s vote share and presence in key constituencies would be higher than what many pollsters estimated.
Political analysts described Kerala as one of the most closely contested states in the election cycle, with both the UDF and LDF claiming confidence despite mixed survey trends.
The elections in Kerala witnessed intense campaigning around issues such as welfare schemes, youth employment, economic management, corruption allegations, coastal development, and social welfare policies.
Exit polls released by different agencies projected varying seat tallies, though several surveys suggested a competitive race between the two major alliances. Observers noted that regional voting patterns and constituency-level dynamics could significantly influence the final outcome.
Election experts also reminded voters that exit polls are unofficial estimates based on voter sampling and may not necessarily predict the exact results declared during official counting.
The official counting of votes is expected to determine whether Kerala continues with the incumbent LDF government or witnesses a political shift in favour of the UDF.
