Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray has once again asserted his claim over the Shiv Sena legacy, declaring that there is “only one Shiv Sena” amid reports of leaders and Members of Parliament shifting allegiance to Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s faction.

The latest political developments have reignited the long-running battle between the two factions that emerged after the dramatic split in the Shiv Sena in 2022. As several leaders and elected representatives continue to align themselves with the Shinde-led camp, Uddhav Thackeray has adopted a firm stance, emphasizing that the party founded by his father, Bal Thackeray, cannot be defined merely by numbers or political power.

Addressing party workers and supporters, Uddhav said that the true Shiv Sena remains committed to its ideology and principles. He argued that while individuals may leave, the identity and spirit of the party remain intact. His remarks appeared aimed at reassuring loyalists amid concerns over the growing influence of the Shinde faction within Maharashtra politics.

The Shinde camp, on the other hand, has maintained that it represents the majority of Shiv Sena legislators and enjoys broader political support. Since the split, the faction has strengthened its position through alliances and electoral gains, posing a significant challenge to Uddhav Thackeray’s leadership.

Political analysts believe the continuing defections highlight the evolving dynamics within Maharashtra’s political landscape. The competition between the two factions is expected to intensify as both sides prepare for upcoming electoral battles. For Uddhav Thackeray, retaining the party’s traditional voter base and organizational strength remains crucial.

Despite setbacks, the former Maharashtra Chief Minister has repeatedly projected confidence, insisting that loyalty to the original Shiv Sena ideology will ultimately determine the party’s future. His latest statement serves as a clear message that he is unwilling to concede the party’s identity, even as rival factions seek to expand their influence.

The ongoing rivalry between the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena continues to shape Maharashtra politics, with both camps vying for legitimacy, leadership, and the support of voters ahead of future elections.
