PM Modi Inaugurates India’s First Domestic Chip Facility In Gujarat’s Sanand

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s first domestic semiconductor chip manufacturing facility in Sanand, marking a major milestone in the country’s push to become a global hub for electronics and semiconductor production.

The state-of-the-art chip facility, established as part of India’s semiconductor mission, is expected to significantly strengthen the country’s technological self-reliance and reduce dependence on imported semiconductor components. The project is being viewed as a landmark achievement in India’s efforts to build a robust domestic electronics manufacturing ecosystem.

Addressing the gathering during the inauguration ceremony, PM Modi described the development as a “historic moment” for India’s technology and manufacturing sectors. He said the facility represents the country’s growing capability in advanced manufacturing and innovation.

“This is a decisive step towards making India a global semiconductor powerhouse. The future of technology will be shaped by chips made in India,” the Prime Minister said.

The facility in Sanand is expected to support industries such as electronics, telecommunications, automobiles, artificial intelligence, defence, and consumer technology. Officials stated that semiconductor production within the country would help improve supply chain resilience and create new opportunities for industrial growth.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of semiconductors in the modern digital economy, noting that chips are essential for devices ranging from smartphones and medical equipment to electric vehicles and advanced computing systems.

Government officials said the project is expected to generate large-scale employment opportunities, attract global investment, and encourage the growth of ancillary industries and research ecosystems around semiconductor manufacturing.

Gujarat has emerged as a key destination for major industrial and technology investments in recent years, with Sanand developing into an important manufacturing hub. The state government has actively promoted infrastructure development and investment-friendly policies to attract high-tech industries.

Experts believe the launch of India’s first domestic chip facility could help position the country as a reliable alternative in the global semiconductor supply chain at a time when nations worldwide are focusing on reducing supply dependencies.

The semiconductor initiative is part of the broader “Make in India” and “Digital India” vision aimed at boosting domestic manufacturing, innovation, and technological advancement. Analysts say the success of the project could pave the way for additional semiconductor investments and advanced technology collaborations in the future.
