India had won just one match – against East Africa (in the 1975 World Cup) – in two editions of the ODI World Cup before entering the 1983 World Cup. The Kapil Dev-led team were complete underdogs going into the tournament, but the way they shut out the noise and scripted a fairytale story which culminated in them lifting the coveted trophy at the ‘mecca of cricket’ – Lord’s – sent the world into a frenzy.
