India has called for rapid de-escalation amid the intensifying conflict between Israel and Iran, emphasizing the importance of maintaining stability in the Gulf region while urging all sides to return to dialogue and diplomacy.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, the government expressed deep concern over the deteriorating security situation in West Asia and warned that continued escalation could threaten regional peace, civilian safety, international trade, and energy security.
India reiterated its long-standing position that disputes must be resolved through diplomatic engagement rather than military confrontation. Officials stressed that restraint from all parties is essential to prevent the conflict from widening further across the Gulf region.
The government’s response reflects India’s significant strategic and economic interests in the Middle East. Nearly one crore Indians live and work across Gulf nations, while a substantial portion of India’s crude oil and gas imports passes through critical maritime routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.
According to reports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar have remained in contact with regional leaders and continued diplomatic outreach focused on peace, maritime security, and protection of Indian nationals in the region.
Officials also highlighted the need to safeguard civilian lives and ensure uninterrupted global trade flows amid fears that prolonged conflict could disrupt shipping lanes, fuel supplies, and regional economies. India has reportedly intensified monitoring of the situation and coordinated with embassies across West Asia to assist Indian citizens if required.
Analysts note that India is carefully balancing its diplomatic relations with both Israel and Iran while prioritising broader regional stability. India shares strong strategic ties with Israel in areas such as defence and technology, while also maintaining important economic and connectivity interests with Iran and Gulf nations.
The conflict has triggered global concern over the possibility of a wider regional war, with several countries and international organizations urging restraint and peaceful negotiations.
