Riaz Hamidullah has asserted that Bangladesh will never take any step that harms India’s security interests, reaffirming Dhaka’s commitment to maintaining strong and stable ties with New Delhi amid evolving regional dynamics.
Speaking during a diplomatic interaction, Hamidullah emphasized the importance of mutual trust, regional cooperation, and shared security concerns between the two neighbouring countries. He stated that Bangladesh values its relationship with India and recognizes the significance of maintaining peace and stability in the region.
“Bangladesh will not act against India’s security interests,” the envoy said, underlining Dhaka’s consistent position on counterterrorism, border management, and regional cooperation.
The remarks come at a time when India and Bangladesh continue to deepen cooperation across sectors including trade, connectivity, energy, water-sharing, defence, and security coordination. Both nations have frequently highlighted their partnership as one of the strongest bilateral relationships in South Asia.
Hamidullah also pointed to the historical and cultural ties shared by the two countries, noting that cooperation between India and Bangladesh has expanded significantly over the past decade. He stressed that bilateral relations are built on mutual respect, economic partnership, and shared developmental goals.
Security cooperation has remained a key pillar of India-Bangladesh ties, particularly in areas related to border security, intelligence sharing, and action against extremist elements operating in the region. Indian officials have often appreciated Bangladesh’s role in addressing cross-border security concerns.
Analysts believe the envoy’s remarks are aimed at reinforcing diplomatic confidence at a time of heightened geopolitical attention in South Asia. Experts note that stable India-Bangladesh relations are considered crucial for regional connectivity, trade corridors, and strategic balance in the Bay of Bengal region.
In recent years, the two countries have worked closely on infrastructure projects, railway and road connectivity, coastal shipping, and power cooperation. Bangladesh has also emerged as one of India’s important trading partners in the neighbourhood.
Observers say statements emphasizing mutual security interests help strengthen diplomatic trust and counter speculation regarding regional tensions or external geopolitical influence.
The comments are likely to be viewed positively in diplomatic circles, reflecting both countries’ continued commitment to maintaining cooperative and constructive bilateral relations focused on development, stability, and regional prosperity.
