Vega Tamotia’s next a rom-com opposite Vir Das

Actress Vega Tamotia, who is all set to make her Bollywood debut with Chittagong, has bagged a romantic comedy opposite Vir Das.

The 27-year-old, who has already worked in Tamil and Telegu movies, just finished shooting the film tentatively titled Amit Sahni Ki List and says her role is completely opposite from her freedom fighter character in Chittagong.

“My next film is a romantic comedy opposite Vir Das. I finished shooting for it last month. It is completely different from the one I play in ‘Chittagong’. I play a fun, mad woman in it,” Vega told PTI.

Chittagong has been directed by scientist-turned-filmmaker Bedabrata Pain and is set against the backdrop of the Chittagong uprising in 1930s, where a group of schoolboys and young women, led by a schoolteacher, Masterda Surya Sen, took on the British Empire.

Vega plays Pritilata Waddedar in the film. “I auditioned for the role. I have an amazing character. It is small but meaningful. With this film I got an opportunity to share screen space with actors like Manoj Bajpai, Nawazuddin Siddiqui. I was happy to be part of the project which is being backed by Anurag Kashyap and I feel this is the best platform for me to get noticed in the Hindi film industry,” she said.

Bollywood stars Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan turned up for the special screening of the film last week in Mumbai and Vega said that she could not believe that her childhood crush Shahrukh praised her performance.

“I am a huge Shahrukh fan. I was shocked to see him there. He was such a gentleman. I did not expect he would be so gracious. He liked the film, he tweeted about it. We later exchanged texts and he wrote ‘I hope our film does so well’. I am a bigger fan now,” she said.

Chittagong will hit screens this Friday. When asked what kind of roles she wants to take up in future, Vega said, “I want to do everything. It is fun being an actor and I want to work in all genres. That is the thrill of being an actor. I would rather have a meaty role than a glamorous role.

“I don’t like decorating the frame, I want to do something which will contribute to the story. I did not come to this profession with an aspiration to do such roles,” she added.
