US Advances $680 mn Arms Sale To Israel Even As Biden Pushes For Gaza Deal After Lebanon Ceasefire
US President Joe Biden is said to have provisionally approved a $680mn weapons sale to Israel, the Financial Times reported. The move comes as a US-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah came into effect in Lebanon on Nov. 27.The ceasefire agreement ended the most direct confrontation in years between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon. However, Israel is still fighting its other arch-foe, the Palestinian group Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The package includes thousands of joint direct attack munition kits (JDAM) and hundreds of small-diameter bombs, according to the FT report. The package follows a $20 billion sale in August of fighter jets and other military equipment to Israel. US has sent Israel over 10,000 highly destructive 2,000-pound bombs and thousands of Hellfire missiles since October 2023. n18oc_world n18oc_crux0:00 INTRODUCTION1:05 US TO SEND FRESH BATCH OF JDAMs, SMALL-DIAMETER BOMBS TO ISRAEL2:12 US-ISRAEL ARMS DEAL LINKED TO LEBANON TRUCE DEAL?4:42 US TO RENEW PUSH FOR GAZA CEASEFIRE
