Sometimes your blouse is low: Salman Khan on what Katrina Kaif can’t wear
There’s a good reason why Salman Khan is called Bhai by Bollywood insiders. He is famously protective of his friends, sometimes verging on possessive. Ex-girlfriend and current co-star Katrina Kaif has been feeling the effects of Salman’s sometimes over-enthusiastic concern on her behalf.
Salman and Katrina star together in spy thriller Ek Tha Tiger, directed by Kabir Khan and produced by Yash Raj Films. It is Salman’s first movie with the redoubtable Yash Raj banner, and the producers have reportedly bent their own stringent rules for their famous star.
Filming was surprisingly smooth, given that Salman and Katrina broke up over a rumoured romance between her and Ranbir Kapoor on the sets of Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani. Except for one instance. Katrina was required to be costumed in a rather revealing outfit for a particular scene. As she emerged from her vanity van at Goregaon’s Film City, all eyes swiveled towards her including Salman’s. The hot-headed Khan reportedly lost his cool when he saw Katrina’s state of undress and told her so in no uncertain terms. A tearful Katrina is said to have locked herself into her van, later leaving it fully clothed.
Salman Khan, in conversation with NDTV’s Sonia Singh, was upfront about what’s off-limits for his heroines.
“You’re working with me, you’re my leading lady, clothes is something you can see what’s looking good or not looking good, it will give you bad image or not… sometimes your blouse is low, sometimes the colour is not correct. So you tell that person go change, it’s not looking good,” said Bollywood’s alpha Khan.
And if you don’t like the answer, why ask if the outfit is looking good, Salman went on to say. But it’s not just Salman who tells Katrina what to do – the whole Khan-daan looks out for her.
“We are the only family she has here. She gets pulled up by me, my sister, my father, my mother. And she has to listen, she’s good at listening,” says Salman.
Being told to change your clothes might be a small price to pay for having the entire Khan clan looking out for your welfare, then.
So how about a future Mrs Salman Khan, and could it be Katrina? Never say never, Salman seemed to say. “Not stayed away from marriage. Come very close to it,” he insisted (Really? Salman the confirmed bachelor?). So what stopped him? Pat comes the reply: “Marriage ke liye doosri party bhi raazi honi chahiye” (The other person should also be ready for marriage).
