Italian Journalist Returns Home After 3 Weeks in Iranian Custody

Italian journalist Cecilia Sala has been freed after spending three weeks in an Iranian prison. She returns home and reunites with her parents and partner at Rome’s Ciampino airport on January 8. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni personally greets Sala alongside Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani. Sala’s detention in Tehran was due to charges of “violating the laws of the Islamic Republic.” Her arrest follows the detention of Iranian businessman Mohammad Abedini in Milan, who faces accusations linked to a US drone attack.
