‘Maybe 10, 15 years later, Rahul may mature’

A sharp political exchange erupted after senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad took a swipe at Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, saying that “maybe 10, 15 years later, Rahul may mature.”

The remark came during a media briefing in which the former Union minister launched a strong attack on the Congress leader over his criticism of the BJP-led central government.

Prasad accused Rahul Gandhi of lacking political seriousness and claimed the Congress leader frequently made statements without fully understanding national issues.

“Maybe after 10 or 15 years, Rahul Gandhi may mature,” Prasad said while questioning the Congress leader’s approach to politics and governance.

The statement quickly triggered reactions from both the BJP and Congress camps, adding to the already intense political rivalry between the two parties.

Congress leaders hit back strongly, accusing the BJP of resorting to personal attacks instead of addressing public concerns such as unemployment, inflation and economic issues.

The BJP, however, defended Prasad’s comments, arguing that Rahul Gandhi’s political conduct and repeated criticism of government institutions invited scrutiny and political rebuttal.

Rahul Gandhi has often been at the centre of political attacks from BJP leaders, especially during election campaigns and parliamentary confrontations. Over the years, BJP leaders have repeatedly questioned his leadership credentials, while Congress leaders have accused the ruling party of attempting to discredit opposition voices.

The exchange reflects the broader and long-running political battle between the BJP and the Congress, which continues to dominate India’s national political landscape.

Political analysts note that personal remarks and sharp verbal attacks have increasingly become common in Indian political discourse, particularly during election seasons and high-profile parliamentary debates.

Despite criticism from rivals, Rahul Gandhi remains one of the Congress party’s principal faces and continues to lead major campaigns against the BJP government on issues ranging from social justice to economic policy.
