Centre Tells SC It Will Bring Back Some People Deported To Bangladesh To Verify Citizenship Claims

The Centre has informed the Supreme Court of India that it is prepared to bring back certain individuals who were deported to Bangladesh in order to verify claims regarding their Indian citizenship. The submission was made during proceedings related to alleged wrongful deportation and citizenship verification issues.

According to reports, the government told the apex court that if there are genuine doubts or disputes concerning the nationality of the deported individuals, appropriate steps would be taken to re-examine the matter. The Centre reportedly assured the court that due legal procedures and verification mechanisms would be followed before arriving at any final conclusion regarding citizenship status.

The case has drawn significant attention amid ongoing debates over illegal immigration, citizenship identification, and deportation processes in border states. Petitioners had raised concerns that some individuals may have been deported without proper verification of their documents or identity.

The Supreme Court is said to have emphasized the importance of ensuring that no Indian citizen is wrongly declared a foreign national or deported without adequate legal scrutiny. The matter also highlights the administrative and humanitarian challenges associated with handling citizenship-related disputes.

The Centre’s statement is being viewed as an important development in the case, as further proceedings are expected to determine the framework and process for reviewing disputed citizenship claims.
