Syrian Interim President Pledges National Dialogue, US Kills Top Operative of Al-Qaeda’s Syria Arm
Syria’s interim president has promised to hold a “national dialogue” on the war-ravaged country. Ahmed Al-Sharaa made the remarks in his first address to the nation after he was appointed interim president for a “transitional period” a day earlier. Sharaa listed maintaining “civil peace” under “a single authority” among the priorities of his government and also issued a strong message to the previous regime. A day earlier after being appointed as interim president, Sharaa announced the dissolution of all armed groups involved in Assad’s overthrow. Sharaa said the transitional government will reflect “Syria’s diversity between its men, women, and youth.” “It would work on building the new Syrian institutions until we reach the stage of free and honest elections,” he said. n18oc_world n18oc_crux0:00 INTRODUCTION1:57 ARAB BACKING FOR SHARAA’S GOVERNMENT 3:55 US KILLS SENIOR OPERATIVE OF SYRIAN AL-QAEDA AFFILIATE
