Israeli troops who seized strategic ground in southern Syria after Assad’s fall will remain on Mount Hermon “indefinitely,” Defence Minister Israel Katz said. Israel says its troops have taken up positions inside a UN-monitored demilitarised zone within Syria, and some have ventured beyond it. Israeli officials previously said that the moves were limited and temporary, to ensure the security of Israeli borders.Katz announcement came during a meeting with Israeli military officers on the Syrian side of Mount Herman, as per reports.
