Trump Aims Direct Talks With Kim As North Korea Cements Ties With Russia, Expands Missile Production
US President-elect Donald Trump’s team is considering holding direct talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, Reuters reported. Trump’s initiative is aimed to ease tensions and reduce the risk of armed conflict, according to the report. The discussions would aim to revive US-North Korea relations, though the potential outcome remains uncertain. North Korea has largely ignored outgoing President Joe Biden’s calls for negotiation without “preconditions.”At the same time, North Korea has strengthened its ties with Russia which may pose a challenge to Trump’s efforts. The news comes after Trump last week nominated Alex Wong as his Deputy National Security Adviser. Wong was involved in organising past Trump-Kim summits during the Republican’s first term at the White House. n18oc_world n18oc_crux0:00 INTRODUCTION2:10 TRUMP-KIM SUMMITS IN THE PAST3:26 HAS KIM ALREADY REBUFFED TRUMP’S OVERTURE?4:54 NORTH KOREA EXPANDING MISSILE PRODUCTION TO HELP PUTIN?
